Rachel Grant Authors the Foreword for a New Book Celebrating Black Women and Girls

Rachel Grant, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism assistant professor, is the author of the foreword to “Beautiful, I Am,” a book by Stan J. Johnson.

The book features portraits and interviews celebrating 98 Black girls, their beauty and the challenges experienced from mainstream media representations.

In her foreword, Grant discusses the power of media images and common stereotypes about Black women.

Johnson is a visiting instructor at Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism and Graphic Communication. He was one of the faculty members who participated in UFXFAMU 1963: Reporting from the U.S. Civil Rights Trail project in 2023.
