UFCJC Dean Hub Brown Comments on 2025 ACEJMC Accreditation Process
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Dean Hub Brown was quoted in “UF’s College of Journalism and Communications Faces Rigorous Reaccreditation Process” published in the Gainesville Sun on Jan. 31.
UFCJC is undergoing a six-year re-accreditation of its undergraduate programs by a team of scholars from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). The process includes an extensive, self-study report and an onsite evaluation from Feb. 2-5.
“This is an assurance of quality,” said Brown. “It’s an assurance to the university, to the alumni, to the students and to the parents.”
According to Brown, “the college continues to prioritize technological advancements by updating its facilities and equipment to ensure students have access to the latest tools in media and communications. Additionally, the college has expanded its sports journalism and media program and increased support for AI research by hiring two faculty members who are experts in this field.”
Brown also emphasized several benefits of accreditation that have a direct impact on students including limiting laboratory class sizes to a maximum of 20 students, promoting access to internships and maintaining policies that guarantee nondiscrimination.
“We have a really good story to tell,” Brown said. “Accreditation is important for us to stay competitive as an institution. It is a guarantee that we abide by a set of standards that are generally shared around the country.”
