Three UFCJC Scholars to Participate in Panel Discussion at Annual UF Technology, Media & Privacy Law Conference
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) scholars Jane Bambauer, Brechner Eminent Scholar and director of the Marion B. Brechner First Amendment Project, Public Relations Chair and Associate Professor Myiah Hutchens and Media Production, Management, and Technology Assistant Professor Jieun Shin will be part of the first panel, “Technology and Epistemic Regress?,” at the 2025 Technology, Media & Privacy Law Conference: The Demand for BS and How to Stop It, to be held on Feb. 14 at 9 a.m. at the UF Levin College of Law.
The annual Technology, Media and Privacy Conference will address how technological advancements are reshaping privacy and free speech issues in the fields of law, journalism and public policy. The 2025 lineup includes speakers from a variety of fields who are considering misinformation problems as a problem of audience demand, rather than supply. They will discuss click bait, audience capture, trust in hyper-partisan media and the scale and causes of modern epistemic failure. They will also consider whether there are promising ways to reduce the demand for low quality information.
The event will conclude with a keynote session featuring The Fifth Column podcast hosts Michael Moynihan, Kmele Foster and Matt Welch.
The conference is hosted by the Brechner First Amendment Project at UFCJC, the Center for Governmental Responsibility at the UF Levin College of Law and the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education.
