UFCJC Student Journalist Speaks on the Future of Investigative Journalism at Knight Media Forum
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism senior Vivienne Serret and student reporter Charlotte Hampton from Dartmouth were featured in “Spark Talks: The Future of Investigative Journalism is Fierce,” a session at the Knight Media Forum 2025 held Feb. 18-20 at the InterContinental Miami.

Serret currently serves as a politics and investigative reporter for The Independent Florida Alligator, Fresh Take Florida and WUFT News. Her reporting on the resignation of former UF President Ben Sasse and his relationship with the university’s influential board chairman gained national attention from prestigious Florida media outlets. Her work earned her the 2024 Society of Professional Journalists Florida Scholarship.
At the Forum, she spoke about her journey to becoming a journalist and the long hours of research required to tell the full story. For the Sasse resignation story, she spoke to top donors, faculty and Sasse colleagues to create the second piece of Alligator’s investigative series on the former UF president.
She said the result was a national headline and a full inbox. The daughter of Cuban immigrants and the first in her family to attend college, she was reminded that through her efforts she had become a journalist.
