Harrison Hove Named Interim Chair of the UFCJC Department of Journalism
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) is pleased to announce that Harrison Hove has been named interim chair of the Journalism Department.

Hove, B.S. Telecommunication 2005, joined UFCJC in 2017 as a news manager in the Innovation News Center (INC). In 2019, he became a Journalism Department lecturer and in 2021 was named department associate chair. He was named director of the Summer Media Institute (SMI), a program for high-school students, in 2022.
Hove has served as an integral leader within the college, most recently overseeing the INC as it transitioned into an academic unit. Under his leadership, the INC expanded its faculty, implemented unit bylaws, and incorporated a shared governance model to foster a more collaborative and inclusive learning environment. During his tenure, student work published through the INC has earned more than 100 national, regional, and state awards, including multiple National Student Murrow Awards, BEA Best of Festival Awards, and Hearst Journalism Awards.
Hove has been a strong advocate for immersive, hands-on learning experiences. His efforts have led to expanded opportunities for students across various media platforms. In 2024, he spearheaded the most comprehensive all-platform hurricane coverage in the College’s public media station’s history, delivering extensive radio, television, and digital reporting.
He has taught In-Depth Reporting, TV News Reporting, Reporting for Radio News and TV Anchoring/Reporting and conducted the Broadcasting Writing Bootcamp.
Since 2022, Hove has grown SMI into one of the nation’s largest high school journalism summer camps. Under his leadership, the program has become a very effective recruitment tool for the College. His commitment to accessibility and outreach was further demonstrated when he secured a $150,000 grant from the Hearst Journalism Foundation to bring a condensed version of SMI to low-income public high schools across Florida.
A dedicated educator and mentor, Hove was named UF Teacher of the Year in 2021 and CJC Mentor of the Year in 2025, underscoring his commitment to student success. He twice received UF’s Rising Star Award.
