Antoine Haywood Serves as a Moderator and Panelist for Public, Educational and Governmental Access Media Conferences

March 12, 2025

Antoine Haywood, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Journalism assistant professor, was the moderator for the opening plenary “Rebuilding Local Journalism: Opportunities and New Coalitions” at the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) West Region Conference and Trade Show in Fresno, California, from March 5-7.

The session explored how public, educational and governmental access media can address the loss of local news, discussing best practices, new partnerships and funding initiatives to support local journalism.

Haywood was also invited by Bronxnet and New York State Senator Robert Jackson to serve on a SOMOS 2025 Conference panel in New York City from March 7-9.  Panelists for “Community Media, Tech Equity and Our Democracy in a Digital Age” discussed how to ensure equity in access to all forms of digital communications resources in an age where authentic local voices are drowned out by toxic algorithms and media consolidation.

Haywood’s research is focused on community participation and representation in local media.
