Benjamin Johnson, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Advertising associate professor and director of the STEM Translational Communication Center, participated in a seven-member panel and served as a guest lecturer at the University of Maine on March 13.

Johnson was the featured speaker for an expert panel, “Numbers Are Not Neutral,” part of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies “WGS At Work” series. Panelists discussed important questions researchers in STEM, the social sciences and the humanities should consider when reviewing research numbers.

He also delivered a guest lecture on “Media + Self” for a class in the UMaine Department of Communication and Journalism.

Johnson’s research is focused on why and how people select and share persuasive messages in new media settings, especially as it relates to psychological processes such as impression management, social comparison, and self-regulation.
