UFCJC Journalist Receives Third Place in 2024-25 Hearst Journalism Awards Personality/Profile Competition

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism senior Hanna Maglio received third place in the 2024-25 Hearst Journalism Awards Personality/Profile Competition. The contest, the third writing competition of the academic year, drew 127 entries from 72 schools.

Her entry, “Not Homeless, Just on an Adventure,” published in The Hernando Sun and on wusf.org, focused on a man who spent his senior year living in his high school stadium. Maglio’s honor includes a $1,500 award.

Currently, UFCJC is in second place in the Intercollegiate Writing Competition with the highest accumulated student points.

Now in its 65th year, the Hearst Journalism Awards Program also includes two photojournalism, one audio, two television, and four multimedia competitions. The program offers up to $700,000 in scholarships, matching grants and stipends. 105 member universities of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication with accredited undergraduate journalism programs are eligible to participate in the Hearst competitions.
