Wanta co-author of new visual communication book
A new book co-authored by University of Florida Journalism Professor and Chair Wayne Wanta that details the study of visuals employed in mass communication has been published by Palgrave Macmillian, a division of St. Martin’s Press.
“Visual Communication Theory and Research: A Mass Communication Perspective” studies the use of visuals in mass communication by examining content; audiences; delivery; and the cognitive, attitudinal and behavioral effects.
“The book is a reference guide for research in visual communication, detailing the current status of this growing field,” Wanta said. “Pre-1990s, there was very little research dealing with visuals in mass communication. Visual communication research has made great strides in the last 20 years or so, and the importance of visuals will continue to grow in the digital age.”
Wanta co-authored the book with Shahira Fahmy, Associate Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Arizona, and Mary Angela Bock, Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.
