CJC Student Journalist Honored in AEJMC Consumer Magazine Writing Awards Competition
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications(UFCJC) Journalism senior Natalia Galicza was honored as the runner-up in the Best Profile category in the 2021 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Consumer Magazine Writing Awards.
Galicza was honored for “A Misfit and His Mustang” published in Atrium, UF’s narrative non-fiction magazine. The story follows the journey of a Florida cowboy transforming a wild horse into a competition winner.
According to the judges, “The story was beautifully and compellingly told. Galicza paints a vibrant portrait of her subject and takes the reader on an emotional journey right alongside him.”
Atrium is named after the large open space in Weimer Hall, the home to UFCJC. It allows the Florida sun to shine in, bringing light into the heart of the building. In the same spirit, the magazine will seek to illuminate the heart of Florida.
