Roxane Coche Co-Authors Article on the Evolution of Sports Media Education
Roxane Coche, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Sports Journalism and Communication associate director and Media Production, Management, and Technology assistant professor, is the co-author of “Sports Media Education’s Evolution: Integrating Technology, Branding and Strategic Media” published in Teaching Journalism & Mass Communication, Vol. 11, No. 2, 2021.
Coche and Matthew Haught examined the integration of technology, branding and strategic media into sports communication education. For the study, they surveyed faculty members who teach sport-related courses at Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication-accredited institutions.
According to the authors, “Findings show the need for evolution in sports journalism curricula remains evident. The instruction of branding skills and social media are germane to the skillset students need to enter the industry. Though programs seem to be broadly embracing live tweeting of games and events, more instruction using other social networks and digital media tools should be considered. Providing students with a better understanding of branding principles, beyond just self-branding, is also advised.”
