Áine Pennello Joins UFCJC Innovation News Center as WUFT “Morning Edition” News Anchor
Áine Pennello has joined the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Innovation News Center as a multimedia reporter and producer, and will assume the role of “Morning Edition” news anchor. She will also be a reporter for WUFT platforms. “Morning Edition” is broadcast Monday through Friday from 5 a.m.to 10 a.m. on public radio stations WUFT 89.1/90.1.
Pennello has a background in video news and documentaries and most recently worked at WCBS Newsradio in New York City covering local news and the tri-state area. She has also reported internationally, freelancing from Paris and Berlin during the Syrian refugee crisis. During the Syrian Civil War, she reported from the Golan Heights while on a reporting grant from the International Center for Journalists.
She has produced and reported for a variety of media companies, including The New York Times, Soledad O’Brien Productions, NBC News, ABC News Studios, Hulu, VICE, HBO Films and Netflix.
In 2016, Pennello was nominated for GLAAD Media’s award for Outstanding Digital Journalism and this year was nominated for a Sundance Premier and Emmy award as part of the crew that produced the documentary “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.”
Pennello also has been an adjunct professor at Fordham University and at the Craig Newmark School of Journalism at CUNY and has served as a board member for the Society of Professional Journalists New York City chapter.
