Lindita Camaj will join the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) in fall 2024 as an associate professor in the Journalism Department.

An award-winning scholar with an international reputation, Camaj has more than 10 years of experience as a faculty member and director of graduate studies at the University of Houston’s Jack J. Valenti School of Communication.

Her research focuses on the intersection of journalism, technology and political communication, connecting journalism with broader societal problems in mature and emerging democracies in Southeast Europe and beyond. Her latest research explores citizen engagement with quality news in digital spaces and tries to identify best journalism practices that foster civic behavior in electoral and non-electoral contexts.

She is the author or co-author on 30 refereed articles that have been published in top-tier scholarly journals, including the International Journal of Press and Politics, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly and Digital Journalism, and has been author or co-author on more than 50 conference presentations and five book chapters. She is recognized nationally and internationally through several grants, awards, fellowships and keynote speaker invitations.

Camaj has taught undergraduate and graduate classes on news and politics, global journalism, data journalism, social media and fact-checking. Prior to becoming a professor, she worked as a journalist in the Western Balkans, reporting for local media and freelancing for international outlets.

Camaj earned her M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication and Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Indiana University. She received a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Pristina in Pristina, Kosovo.
