UFCJC Alumni Honored in SPJ Green Eyeshade Awards Competition

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications students and alumni were honored in the 74th annual Green Eyeshade Awards competition hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

In the Student Division, Troy Meyers, B.S. Journalism 2023, was honored as Best Feature Reporter for the Fresh Take Florida story “University Accountability.”

In the Best Feature Writer category, Journalism junior Luena Rodriguez-Feo Vileira and Elise Plunk, B.S. Journalism 2024, received first and second place respectively, for stories published in Atrium Magazine.

Since 1950, the Green Eyeshades have recognized the best journalism in the southeastern U.S. — which now includes print, television, radio and digital. All entry fees for the awards support SPJ programs in the South. The competition is open to journalists in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
