Yu-Hao Lee Authors Article on Benefits of Digital Games for Older Adults
Yu-Hao Lee, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunication assistant professor, is the author of “Older Adults’ Digital Gameplay, Social Capital, Social Connectedness, and Civic Participation” published in Games Studies, Volume 19, Issue 1, May 2019.
According to the study, “Results showed that older adults who played alone did not have reduced social capital. Playing with local and distant ties were both associated with more bonding and bridging social capital. Moreover, playing with online friends was associated with bridging social capital. Playing with online friends was also associated with more civic participation. The findings suggest that digital games can be an effective means of promoting social connectedness among older adults depending on how they play and whom they play the games with.”
