Andrew Selepak Comments on the Fate of Social Media App TikTok
Andrew Selepak, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Media Production, Management, and Technology associate instructional professor, was quoted in “Trump Hails Tik Tok’s Return Ahead of Inauguration” broadcast on CNN on Jan. 20.
Selepak was interviewed by CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez about a potential TikTok sale under the Trump administration.
“China is not going to give away this algorithm. It is the best algorithm out there. I think most companies are trying to match it, copy it, try to find some way to basically replicate it,” said Selepak.
Selepak also was quoted in “Central Florida Content Creator Says Livelihood is at Stake as TikTok Ban Takes Effect” posted on WESH.com on Jan. 18.
According to Selepak, “If TikTok does get banned and is no longer an option for people, one of the things to keep in mind is there are still a lot of options out there for content creators.”
“The law was born of two concerns: algorithm manipulation and data usage by the Chinese communist government,” he said.
