Power Over Cancer
On March 31, 2022, Dr. Eric Cooks, postdoctoral fellow with the STEM Translational Communication Center at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications participated in “Power Over Cancer: A Conversation With the East Gainesville Community”. This community event brought together cancer leaders, researchers and clinicians at the UF Health Cancer Center and members of the East Gainesville community to share ways to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural sensitivity in the cancer prevention, care and research that occurs at or with the support of the cancer center. Dr. Cooks spoke about his work with the STEM Center Director Dr. Janice Krieger to address patient challenges to cancer screening through virtual technology, which holds the capacity to deliver tailored, culturally appropriate cancer prevention messaging.
