What are you teaching this semester?
I will be teaching Advertising Strategy in fall 2024.
What is your area of expertise?
I use a variety of empirical methods to investigate the content and effects of mass media and social media messages regarding health issues and policy issues. My research is interdisciplinary and at the intersection of communication, public health, and public policy.
What research are you working on?
I am currently working on research projects regarding how to effectively communicate cancer risks, screening behaviors, and related disparities to promote cancer screening and other preventive measures.
What excites you most about coming to Gainesville?
The University of Florida and its College of Journalism and Communications are world class. I am excited about joining this great academic community. Also, Gainesville is very beautiful. I lived in Urbana-Champaign, IL first when I came to the U.S., then Madison, WI, and then Ithaca, NY. I am excited to see how Gainesville is similar to and different from those places.
What accomplishments, personal or professional, are you most proud of?
My research findings have been featured in messaging guidelines, tip sheets, blog posts, and webinars to inform the practice of journalists, campaign strategists, and issue advocates to promote health and well-being. I am the first person with a Ph.D. degree in my family. I can play the piano and the trumpet.
