Kim Fowler

What are you teaching this semester?

I’ll be teaching Brand Content Creation with the Agency, Brand Storytelling Campaigns, and Internships.

What is your area of expertise?

I have experience in a variety of areas of communications, including 13 years working in Advertising production, as well as film and video production, and branded content creation. The culmination of my skills have helped me create a niche in brand storytelling and content creation. Additionally, I have been working with organizations and programs in producing storytelling for social good.

What research are you working on?

For the past two years I’ve been working with the College of Design, Construction, and Planning on the GulfSouth Studio program, which is an interdisciplinary program providing students with hands-on experience finding solutions for coastal communities affected by disasters, in an attempt to provide sustainable solutions and increase coastal and community resilience. The CJC portion of the work was focused on community and stakeholder engagement and communicating the challenges and successes of community rebuilding after disasters, as well as taking complex ideas and communicating that information in a way that is digestible and understandable for community members and key stakeholders alike.

Significant other, children, pets?

I have two fur-babies. Maddie is my pandemic foster fail (who was featured in the Spring 2022 Atrium Magazine article “For the Love of Dog”). I’ve also acquired my grandmother’s cat, Sweetpea, who is 17, totally deaf and screams at me if I don’t pick her up and pet her the moment I get home.

What excites you most about coming to Gainesville?

Already being here 😊. Coming back to Gainesville to get my master’s degree felt like coming home, so staying on was an easy choice!

What accomplishments, personal or professional, are you most proud of?

I am really proud of the work my team and I did over the 13 years I was with WPP (Ogilvy then Hogarth) because we got to work on some really impactful and amazing work. However, I think the work that I’ve done since I came back to the CJC is what I’m most proud of. I love collaborative projects and doing work that makes a difference, and I’ve been really fortunate to work with some incredible faculty and staff on campus here at UF.

Your hero or biggest inspiration (alive or historical)?

My biggest heroes/inspirations are always women throughout history who blazed trails, particularly in education. I can get super nerdy about women in the 1400-1500s who defied societal expectations by reading, spreading ideas, and creating their own books and art pieces.

What three things don’t we know about you?

  1. On one side of my family tree, I have ancestors that signed the Declaration of Independence.
  2. The other side of my family tree is comprised of Romanian gypsies from Transylvania.
  3. I will watch Jurassic Park on repeat and never get tired of it.
