Lindita Camaj

What are you teaching this semester?

This semester I am teaching a graduate seminar title Media, Globalization and Social Change. In spring I will teach an undergraduate class in Global Journalism.

What is your area of expertise?

I am interested in global perspectives on digital news, politics and data, and information access.

What research are you working on?

Right now, I have two research projects in progress. One project investigates how cross-border journalism collaborations mitigate strategies for overcoming information access barriers from a comparative global perspective. The other research project examines how news consumption via messaging apps (such as WhatsApp, Viber or Telegram) affect users’ trust in news organizations, learning about public affairs, and information sharing practices of WhatsApp users across different networks.

Significant other, children, pets?

My husband, Cameron, is also a faculty member at the University of Florida and we have two energetic girls: the Harry Potter die-hard fan Arzana (11 years old) and the aspiring artist Adria (6 years old).

What excites you most about coming to Gainesville?

I am excited to work with brilliant colleagues and students on the gorgeous UF campus, but also thrilled to explore gorgeous beaches and nature parks in the surrounding areas.

What accomplishments, personal or professional, are you most proud of?

I am super proud to be a first-generation college graduate in my family. I have run about six half-marathons, and once I was on the same International Communication Association conference panel with Michael Schudson.

What three things don’t we know about you?

  1. I can speak four languages (Albanian-native, English, Serbo-Croatian and Italian)
  2. I love yoga and running
  3. I am a big snob when it comes to coffee
