Orange and Blue is a student-run magazine produced by students enrolled in JOU 4447 Applied Magazines. Students serve as the magazine staff and work on writing, editing, photography, and design. Typically, the magazine comes out twice a year (at the beginning of each semester) and is available at various newsstand boxes around campus.
Orange and Blue was started in the mid-1980s (under the name of G. magazine, covering the city of Gainesville). Soon after, it became a general-interest magazine covering UF. Since 2004, each staff has chosen a theme for the issue and base all stories around that theme. We’ve had The Skin Issue, The Danger Issue, The Sweat Issue, The Black Issue, The Dirty Issue and many others. The staff tries to come up with a theme that allows them to creatively interpret the word and tell compelling stories through words and pictures. The magazine has routinely won and placed for general excellence in various awards competitions, including the SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards and the AEJMC Magazine Division Student Magazine Contest.
