FPREN and Three UFCJC Division of Media Properties Leaders Receive 2023 Florida Government Productivity Award
Florida TaxWatch, the Florida Council of 100 and the state of Florida have announced that University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Division of Media Properties Executive Director Randy Wright, Chief Meteorologist and Florida Public Radio Emergency Network (FPREN) Director Jeff George, and Senior Multimedia Meteorologist Megan Borowski are the recipients of a 2023 Florida Government Productivity Award.
The awards recognize and reward excellence in productivity and highlight individuals and teams who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to finding innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service.
The program is a major government improvement initiative acknowledging achievements in areas such as process improvement, technology integration and creative problem-solving.
The team was selected for their contributions to FPREN, which provides public safety and emergency message content to all Florida public radio and television stations during severe weather in the state. The broadcast service is supplemented with additional content online, on social media platforms and via the Florida Storms app. It is available at a minimal cost to the participating stations and a free resource for Florida residents during hurricanes, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
The $2,500 award will be presented at a ceremony in Tallahassee, Florida, on Dec. 6.
